About balè
Sourcing Sustainably
In an era where environmental consciousness is paramount, sourcing sustainable materials is a top priority for both artisans and consumers. At balè, we are committed to only using sustainably harvested teak. Our teak is SVLK certified. The SLVK (Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu) certification guarantees the legality and sustainability of its timber exports, most importantly teak. This certification also manages sustainable forestry practices while reducing illegal logging and trading. SLVK certification is required by law in order for Indonesian timber (teak) to be exported in most countries.
Perum Perhutani which is owned by the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry plays a vital role in overseeing the production and harvest of all teak. They manage all teak forest plantations with agroforestry, guaranteeing biodiversity in the crops and providing economic benefits to the local communities. Perum Perhutani ensures that teak is sustainable and financially beneficial for all Indonesian economies involved in the timber harvest process.
Heritage of Handmade Furniture
Indonesia has long been renowned for its skilled artisans who mastered the art of handmade furniture. These dedicated craftsmen and craftswomen have inherited age-old techniques and traditions, passing them down from one generation to the next. Their expertise and attention to detail makes handmade furniture truly exceptional. Each piece has a unique charm and character.
Supporting Artisans
When purchasing our handmade furniture, you not only invest in a beautiful piece for your home but you also support our artisans in Bali and their communities. By choosing handmade over mass-produced alternatives, we contribute to the preservation of traditional craftsmanship and help sustain the livelihoods of these talented individuals.
Living the Relaxed Lifestyle
Our brand is not just about furniture; it's about a way of living. We aim to create spaces that exude tranquility and promote a relaxed lifestyle. By incorporating natural elements into our designs, such as wood and organic fabrics, we bring a sense of nature indoors. Our furniture is not just functional; it's an invitation to slow down, unwind, and embrace a more relaxed way of living.

A gateway to my heritage
balè, previously known as bali bungalow, was founded in 2019 in New York City. We started by selling throws & pillow covers at flea markets in Brooklyn, NY on weekends, which slowly expanded into all things furniture and beyond. The journey we embarked on taught us to understand and celebrate the culture of handcrafted furniture & decor.
Our mission has always been to provide great quality products while preserving heritage and supporting sustainability practices. We strive to provide timeless design pieces that not only tells a story but also becomes a part of your own heritage.
Our furniture is designed to embody the concept of relaxed living, where comfort and functionality meet timeless style. From cozy armchairs to versatile coffee tables, each piece is carefully crafted to complement any space and create an atmosphere of calm and serenity.
We believe that incorporating natural elements into our living spaces not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also promotes a sense of well-being. From the warmth of solid wood to the subtle textures of natural fibers, our furniture brings the beauty of the outdoors inside.
Together, let's create a more sustainable and beautiful world, one piece of furniture at a time.

Lita & Matt

At balè we focus on improving our sustainability practices. As our part to create a business that also gives back to nature, we are partnering with One Tree Planted to plant three trees in Indonesia for every chair we sell.
